Carpets & Kilims

Anatolian

Anatolia (or Asia Minor) has a long tradition of carpet weaving which flourished with the arrival of the Central Asian Turks in the 11th century, and then again under the Ottomans. Traditionally the roof and walls of nomadic homes were made of kilims. Designs are typically inspired by the themes of life – birth, marriage, fertility, death, spirituality – and include a wide variety of motifs, each with their own meaning.
