Anatolian Kilim and Indian Dhurrie Ottoman

This stylish and chic ottoman is the result of a well-designed combination of traditional Jaipur dhurrie and the celebrated Anatolian Malatya kilim. The subtle shades of sea green and earthy rust of the striped dhurrie is very much in line with the timeless beauty of the traditional Indian dhurrie. The flatwoven Jaipur Rugs dhurrie (sometimes spelled "dari" or "durrie") is produced by twisting 5 or 6 strands of uniquely dyed wool yarn, thus creating a unique weft thread in each line.

The wide panel across the top of the ottoman is made from a 90 year old Malatya kilim from Anatolia, perhaps the best known and most highly regarded amongst kilims. This piece is a true representation of the design principles that govern the weaving of Anatolian kilims: translating highly stylized floral motifs into geometric designs, border compositions consisting of Kufic patterns, creating geometric forms by the repetition of motifs in rows. Floral motifs in this kilim are stylized and highly abstract.

The narrow strip around the top of the ottoman is handmade Uzbek tape, and the tassels are also from Uzbekistan.
