Brown Khami Chin Burmese Table Runner

Bold green and thin magenta stripes stand out on an earthy brown background in this table runner. Originally a shoulder scarf woven by the Khami Chin, a Chin sub-tribe of Myanmar, it is traditionally draped over the shoulders and worn down the front of the body.

Traditionally. Khami women wove their own clothes in patterns taught to them by their mothers on a backstrap loom called the 'tapaur'. The typical dress would be a lower body wrap called the taka seang held in place by strands of glass or metal beads, a breast cloth ah khin and a wide shoulder scarf the htim paum.
