Tibetan & Nepalese Rugs

Though influenced by the weaving traditions of China and East Turkestan, Tibetan carpets evolved their own, distinctive designs and purposes. They are set apart from other pile rugs by a singular knotting technique that is used nowhere else in the world. Also, in the past they were typically used as mats to sleep or sit on, rather than to cover floors or decorate walls. Favoured traditional designs include medallions, repetitive floral trellises, geometric patterns, and very characteristic pictorials, such as tiger rugs and dragon rugs.
