Diamond and Triangle Rows Turkmen Kilim

The lovely warm shades of madder red, orange and subtle blues in this old Turkmen kilim, in excellent condition, are typical of weavings from tribes of this region in Central Asia. The ordered rows with small geometric motifs are also typical, in contrast to the large and bold medallions that you would see in Anatolian flatweaves for example. It is believed by many that the Turkmen tribes, who migrated from Central Asia westward through the Caucasus from the 11th century, brought their tradition of weaving to Anatolia.
