Karakecili Kilim with Diamond Motif

In a classic interpretation from the central Anatolian village of Karakecili, this kilim features three rows of the hooked diamond motif that is characteristic of many kilims woven in Anatolia and elsewhere. Variously interpreted as a scorpion or a dragon, the hooked diamond is a protective symbol, woven into a rug to augur protection for family members, homes and harvests, animals and possessions, by warding off the evil eye, general ill-will, natural calamities and other danger. Each of the nine hooked diamonds is woven in a different colour scheme and is encased in a crenellated frame against a checkered black and red background.

Elegant enough for a formal living room floor, this kilim's warmth and comfort make it ideal for placement in a bedroom or family room.
