Orange Village Pillow Cushion

Orange geometric patterned cheent is bordered with bands of black, orange, green and red and finished with an eclectic bead and shell tasselled border.

The cushion is made with a technique called Gudri work in which multiple layers of fabric are fused together using simple running stitch to form a quilted material. The technique is used widely in villages in India and Pakistan to recycle saris and other fabric into a different use.

Cheent is a village cotton fabric best seen in the bright lehengas worn by tribal women in Rajasthan. It was exported to the West and became the rage in the 18th century under the name ‘chintz’.

This cushion is sold with the filler and can be used on a divan, on a sofa or pretty much anywhere! Handmade eccentricities and some wear with age should be expected.
