Peacock Reverse Glass Painted Coaster Set

A set of fun hand painted coasters with a traditional peacock motif. This set of four coasters is a lovely example of the reverse-glass painting heritage of Rajasthan. Painstakingly hand worked using ancient tools and techniques, today just a few families remain who authentically practice this craft.

In North India, reverse glass painting flourished during the 16-18th century, especially in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. It is believed to have been encouraged, in part, by the purdah tradition, where glass dividers were painted to separate the women's quarters from the rest of the royal household.

These coasters make a lovely gift. They are lined with felt and should be wiped clean and not washed.
