Purple Meander Hmong Embroidered Cushion

This elegant cushion, made by women of the Hmong tribe from northern Thailand, will add a touch of grace to any decor. The embroidered meander design, perhaps symbolising a river, is the focal point. Traditionally, Hmong embroidery is used as a form of decoration on clothing to make it bright and beautiful, often incorporating vibrant pinks, reds, greens and blues, sometimes contrasting with yellow, brown and white. This cushion with its deep shades of blue and purple, and stylish black velvet edging, provides a more subtle elegance.

From a young age, Hmong girls learn how to sew and copy motifs from their mothers and grandmothers. As they grow older, the embroidery skills that the girls acquire make them more attractive marriage partners.

The cushion backing is black cotton, and the filler is included.
