Qashqai Luri Bakhtaran Large Boteh Carpet

An unusual Qashqai rug (kilim) drawn with spontaneity, probably indicating a mixed tribal origin incorporating elements of Luri and Bakhtaran symbolism. The central polar axis is formed with the classic pools traditional to south Persian weavings, each pool filled with representations of flowers and local icons. Eight very large scale botehs are laid out in the negative space left outside the central medallions. There are numerous attractive filler elements in the design. A wide and unusual main border includes botehs, bars and what appear to be strips of flowers. A very supple and floppy handle, very high lanolin content and smooth wool.

The age of this rug makes it quite rare. The blend of colours used are warm and earthy including shades of orange - though due to its years, there has been some colour bleed but very few repairs, albeit tiny ones. This wear and tear can probably be ascribed to kilims often being used below rugs as felt.
