Red Chevron Handwoven Ikat Cushion

This cushion balances warm pinkish-red zigzags with creamy white streaks in a chevron, or inverted V, pattern. The word chevron is usually used in reference to a kind of fret in architecture, or to a badge or insignia used in military or police uniforms, or in heraldry and the designs of flags.

The cushion is made from Uzbek ikat. The ikat effect is achieved by applying bindings, that are resistant to dye penetration, to the threads in the desired patterns and then dyeing the threads. When the dyeing is completed, the bindings are removed and the threads are then woven into cloth.

The ikat fabric used, on front and back, is 50% silk and 50% cotton. This cushion can be complemented with a smaller rectangular cushion (A01-137); the filler is included.
