Traditional Bhumiya Raj Pendant

Vintage die-stamped pendant from the region of Shekhawat in Rajasthan. The amulet pendant is depicts Bhumiya Raj, a chieftain who died in defence of his property. The term bhumiya is derived from bhumi, meaning land. Trusted and feared, the deified spirits of these local heroes protect their community by riding a horse around the village to dispel enemies.

'Pathri' (as they are commonly known) pendants were originally made by the villagers of Rajasthan for their own use. They were worn by men and women and children in memory of their forefathers and as a protection against the evil forces. The villagers now sell these vintage pendants to buy new ones for themselves.

This pendant is provided with a complimentary leather or suede thread.
