Turkmen Embroidery and Uzbek Ikat Long Cushion

The fine Turkmen embroidery complements the beautiful dark orange and black of the handwoven Uzbek ikat fabric on this exclusive long cushion. Interestingly the embroiderer has included the date, 1980, into her work. This embroidery is an example of akkaima, one of the basic types of Turkmen embroidery. Used mainly at the neck and sleeves of dresses and shirts, and the lower edges of women's trousers (seen from underneath the dress), Turkmen women also embroider tyubeteykas (caps) and different kinds of small bags used for keeping domestic items.

The backing of this cushion is more of the Uzbek ikat, and the filler is included.
