Uzbek Saddle Bag Kilim

This kilim saddlebag from Uzbekistan features bright, playful colours and bold bereket motifs in a diamond-shaped lattice. The bereket is a combination of the elibelinde and ram's horn motifs, thus uniting male and female forms in an intricate pattern that suggests fertility. It is often found in items woven after marriage. Note also the hook motif (both a protective sign and a symbol of union) in the side borders.

With both bags stuffed and stitched, this item could make a great floor cushion, with one bag against the wall as a backrest.
