Veramin Antique Cruciform Kilim

This old and rare kilim from the Veramin region of Persia was probably woven by the Lurs inhabiting that area. The brown ground field is probably all undyed wool. The field is composed of interconnected stepped diamonds, randomly coloured and organised in a truly charming and naïve composition. Each diamond has an unusual central “cross” or “cruciform” element. The few negative spaces in the field are dotted with unique filler elements representing bird heads, snakes and abstract human forms. An electric vertical zigzag or mountain peak border frames the two long sides of this rare flat woven rug. No two elements are the same in this design.

The colours used in this rug are all natural and the yarn used is of a lighter, finer texture. There have been no repairs made to this rug making it outstanding value.
