Wild Flowers Rajasthani Miniature Painting

A glorious riot of beautiful flowers, very much in the Mughal style, is the focal point of this painting. Two narrow borders, framing the blossoms in the centre, have small floral motifs inset. The intricate outer border is also made up of a profusion of delicate flowers, highlighted by a real gold border, set against a rich, deep brown silk surround. Truly, a painting fit for royalty.

Indian miniature painting is an art form that can be traced back to the 10th century. Jaipur in Rajasthan was, and still is, the centre for these fine miniatures. The artists use a palette of natural organic colours, as well as real silver and gold, to bring miniature paintings to vibrant life. As well as handmade paper, a variety of other materials are also used to paint on, including wood, ivory and marble. Read more on A World in Miniature in the Arastan Journey blog.
