Yajebedar Carpet

A beautiful, tightly woven pile carpet made by the tribal women of Anatolia. Most probably named after the village or region of its origin, this intricate carpet could have been a traditional dowry piece. Observe how vivid aubergine, red and brown colours are highlighted by the restrained use of white in the border, central field and tassels. Fine carpets like this are becoming increasingly rare (as the nomadic lifestyle becomes extinct). More than floor coverings or distant museum pieces, tribal Anatolian carpets are a window into a dying culture and bygone time.
